Our Process

For the uninitiated – and even those who may have built before – building a house can seem like an enormous, overwhelming proposition. At Unique Housing, we’ve done it so many times before, that we can put your mind at ease.

At every step of the way, we will be happy to update you as much as you’d like so you always feel involved in the process. The following is a general schedule of how things will go once you choose Unique Housing to build your new house.

 

Stage 1 – Planning
You
  • Plan what’s important to you in terms of rooms, layout, size, etc.
  • Plan your budget and determine your financing options.
Stage 2 – Find Your Land and Choose Your Package
You
  • Build on your existing land, purchase new land, build on ours or choose one of our House & Land Packages.
Unique Housing
  • We’ll advise on the land’s suitability for the type of home you want.
  • We’ll investigate any covenants applicable to the land.
Stage 3 – Sign Contracts and Pay Deposit
You
  • After securing your financing, you can then sign your contract with Unique Housing and pay your deposit.
Unique Housing
  • We’ll arrange a meeting with you to discuss what you can expect from your experience with Unique Housing and to go through your plans.
  • We’ll conduct soil tests in readiness for construction to commence.
Stage 4 – Designing the Look for Your New Home
You
  • Choose your colours, fixtures, fittings, finishes and appliances.
Unique Housing
  • We’ll lodge the final plans with Council on your behalf.
Stage 5 – Construction Underway
Unique Housing
  • Once the plans are approved, we’ll provide you with a start date for construction.
  • At every stage of construction, we will keep you informed.
You
  • You may like to visit the site to take photos and videos so that you have an ongoing record of the exciting process.
Stage 5 – Construction Underway
Foundations Frame Enclosed/Lock-Up Fit-Out Completion
Unique Housing
  • A progress payment invoice will be issued upon completion of each stage of construction shown above.
You
  • You must submit any variation requests without delay. Variations do of course add extra charges to the contract price and will be invoiced with the final account.
Stage 6 – Final Account Issued
Unique Housing
  • We will invite you to inspect your new home and make sure that you’re happy before issuing a final account.
You
  • Pay final account.
Stage 7 – Handover and Move In
Unique Housing
  • We will give you the keys and garage door remote controls for your new house and sign the house over to your ownership.
  • We will also provide a Handover Kit containing all your plans, warranties, manuals and a schedule of finishes and colours for future reference.
You MOVE IN AND CELEBRATE!!!

 

Six month defect period

Three to four months after handover, we will contact you to ensure you’re happy with the construction of your house. We’ll send you a Defect Letter and Request Form so if there is anything you feel needs rectifying, we can attend to it without delay. We aim to correct any defects you have raised within the six month period following handover.

And it doesn’t end there.

You are protected for six years and six months by mandatory Home Warranty Insurance via the QBCC. Should you have any concerns regarding your new house, we welcome your call at any time.
